Second warp beams are helpful when your project uses yarns that have different amount of take up or elasticity, for example seersucker, supplementary warps, and pique.
When using a Louet 2nd warp beam, the tension brake on the main beam only works on the main beam. The 2nd beam is tensioned with the supplied ratchet and pawl system only. This means you do have to move to the back of the loom, release the 2nd warp beam ratchet, advance the 2nd beam warp and then advance the main beam separately.
