Our Story

Our goal is to provide you a unique fiber experience and a place where you can become inspired by all the beautiful projects, yarns, fibers, tools and more, just as we are.

Susan Fricks, aka FiberObsessions

Susan has been working with fiber since her earliest memories, having learned to knit and crochet when she was just 5 or 6 years old from her mother. She has been an avid spinner since the early 80's, weaving since 1986, has raised angora rabbits and sheep over the years, grown her own cotton and loves spinning on a charkha. Her high-tech, high-stress corporate job kept her very busy until August, 2007, when she decided that 'there is no time like the present' and retired from corporate life to pursue her dream of opening a yarn and fiber shop.

The shop opened in March 2008, and the rest, as they say, is history!

John Fricks, the Husband, Partner and Master Enabler

John loves to cook and garden and is the master enabler. It was his idea for Susan to take the plunge and open the shop. When an old, dilapidated building came up for sale, he convinced her that it could become something wonderful and just what she needed! And he was right... many, many months later, and lots of agonizing hours with work crews and power tools, the building is quite a remarkable transformation and once again has the charm of its early beginnings in the 1890's.

John continues to renovate buildings, garden and bake up a storm!

Coco, was our self-assured angora bunny. To know him was to love him! He crossed over the Rainbow Bridge in the summer of 2018 and we miss him.

Coco was a working bunny, giving us lovely chocolate angora fiber, companionship, kisses and giggles. He knew how to please and get what he wanted. Gentle with the kiddos and kind to strangers, he was always happy to let you pet him or take his picture. He did get very excited when given attention! He lived to a old age and had a happy life.

Angora wool is incredibly soft, lustrous and warm. It is, known as being hypoallergenic, making them the perfect shop bunnies!

Gus, the unassuming Shop Dog with so much personality, but he's such a stuffed shirt!

Gus, the Shop DogGus came to us when Finley, our beloved tuxedo cat, thought the shop should have a stuffed cat in his likeness, since he couldn't be here in person. Since it just didn't seem right, we found Gustavo, the stuffed golden retriever who now sits at the door and welcomes our visitors, donning projects and finished works.

Greet him when you come in, see what he's wearing for you, and he'll love you back! He's such an incredible show-off!
