Schacht Rigid Heddle Variable-Dent Reeds

Create fabric with different densities in the sett, or accommodate thick and thin yarns.

Using the Variable Dent Reed:

  • Line up the sections in the order you want them in the reed. Be sure that the non-printed sides of the sections are all facing front and the flat edges of each section all face in the same direction.
  • Stand the reed upright (knobs up) on a table.
  • On one end, unscrew and remove the knob and washer.
  • On the opposite end, loosen the knob about three turns but do not remove it or the washer.
  • Install the reed sections in the bottom slot one at a time. Slide each section from the open end to the opposite end.
  • As you work, lower the frame top onto the sections.
  • Each section sits in the slots in the top and bottom frame.
  • When all of the sections are installed, slide the washer between the top of the metal post and the underside of the frame top, aligning the washer with the post. Insert the knob into the hole, and through the washer. Tighten both knobs.
