Cavalcade of Color Work with Franklin Habit

When the time comes to introduce color patterns to your knitting, the choices are many and the possibilities staggering. In this intense but playful full-day workshop, we will delve into the basics of jacquard/stranded color, intarsia, and the little-known garter stitch jacquard. Even if you’ve been nervous about any of these three, by the end of the class you’ll feel empowered to work with all.

And if you think color work fabrics are too hot or heavy for a Texas climate–guess again! Some, like intarsia, create a colorful single layer of fabric–and every technique in the class can be worked in cottons, linens, or any other your favorite warm-weather fibers.

In addition to the fundamentals of all three techniques, students will learn how to determine what technique is best suited to a project’s needs, how to introduce color into plain patterns, and how to avoid losing your mind in a heap of tangled ends.

Workshop Fee: $110

Materials Fee: $0

Pre-requisites: Fluency in the basics of single-color knitting, including casting on, knitting, and purling. Best suited to advanced beginners and intermediate knitters looking to expand their repertoire of color techniques.

Two balls of smooth, worsted weight yarn (for example: Rowan Pure Wool Worsted, Brown Sheep Naturespun), one in a solid or semi-solid dark color and one in a solid or semi-solid light color. The colors chosen should be very distinct from one another.

One circular needle (16”–24” is sufficient) in a size appropriate to the yarns chosen.

Notions: Scissors, yarn/tapestry needle, pen (or pencil) and paper for making notes. (In all of my classes, note-taking is highly advised!) Row counter and/or chart row marker (optional).

Workshop refund policy: Cancellations made before June 10th will be 100% refundable. Any cancellation between June 10 and June 30 will be 50% refundable. We are not able to refund the Workshop Fee after June 30th.
