Our goal is to provide you a unique fiber experience and a place where you can come in and share your fiber passions and maybe develop some new ones in the company of friends.  In keeping with our desire to promote locally produced and environmentally friendly yarns and fibers, we hope to expose you to some exciting products from local fiber and yarn producers and indy dyers, as well as some of the bamboo, soy and other fibers that are also perfect for our Texas climate! 

Susan Fricks, the Owner

Susan has been working with fiber since her earliest memories, having learned to knit and crochet when she was just 5 or 6 years old.  She has been an avid spinner since the early 80's, weaving since 1990, has raised angora rabbits and sheep over the years, and now lives on an organic fruit and vegetable farm she and her husband are developing.  Her high-tech, high-stress corporate job kept her very busy for lots of years until nearly two years ago now, when she decided that 'there is no time like the present' and retired from corporate life to pursue her dream of opening a yarn and fiber shop. The rest, as they say, is history!

John Fricks, the Husband and Partner

John loves to garden and grow things, especially flowers!  He is also the master envisioner/dreamer, and it was his idea to take the plunge and develop the shop.  When the old run-down building came up for sale at a reasonable price, he worked for months on Susan to convince her that it could be more than was before their eyes and could be just what she needed!  And he was right... many, many months later, and lots of agonizing hours with work crews and power tools, the building is quite a remarkable transformation from what it was and still maintains the original charm of it's 1890's building style. Thanks, John!!

Carol Yount, Friend, Supporter and Shop Caretaker Extraordinaire!

Carol loves to knit, has learned to spin (and is developing quite the passion for that, too), and has the cheeriest of dispositions, even when she is ripping out her projects (which doesn't happen often!). She has made the most gorgoeus sweaters and coats. You should ask her to show you her latest projects, because they are always wonderful, detailed and knitted with great care.

She is now teaching our beginning knitting classes and you are sure to love knitting as a result of her passion, her patience and her care of the details!

Finley, the Cat and Wannabe Overseer of All Things Fiber

Finley is a darling of a cat, who loves yarns and fibers and adores watching people spin and do all types of needlework.  He'd love to be the shop mascot, but understands that he will have to watch from his home down the road, as not everyone loves him as we do (though he would tell you that once someone meets him, they can't but fall in love!).  He's said we can have a stuffed one in his likeness, but that just doesn't seem right! (sadly, Finley subcombed to the gods the last week of June in defense of a new litter of kittens and their feral cat momma. We miss him terribly but get comfort from the new little ones, knowing that his brave heart brought them to us.)

Gus, the unassuming Shop Dog with so much personality, but he's such a stuffed shirt!

Gus came to us when Finley gave permission for a stuffed cat in his likeness. Since it just wasn't right, we found Gustavo, the stuffed golden retriever who now sits at the door and welcomes our visitors, donning projects and finished works all the time with eyes sparkling.

Give him a pet when you come in, see what he's wearing for you, and he'll love you back! He's such an incredible show-off!
