Tips and Tricks
What do the numbers mean? When you buy yarn and thread, there is a set of numbers that specify its size. The numbers are all based on a standard number of yards per pound for that particular fiber. I've added this to help you know what the numbers mean and to be able to figure out how different yarns and thread compare to one another.
Cotton: number is made of 2 parts, the standard multiplier followed by number of plies (e.g. 8/2)

So in the example above, an 8/2 cotton would be made up of 2 plies of 8's thead, measuring 6720 yds per pound. Therefore, the yardarge would be 6720/2 (number of plies) or 3360 yards per pound.
